The Scotts Miracle Gro company are a large multi-national corporation who manufacture and distribute a large range of consumer gardening products with familiar brands such as Miracle-Gro, Evergreen, Weedol, Rose Clear and Tomorite.
As part of a two year project, Lightflows worked with the business to move all of its European websites to one single platform. Starting with the United Kingdom site, lovethegarden.com, other regions quickly followed with the Benelux regions, German and Austria all moving across to the Drupal platform.
The fourth project, La Pause Jardin is the French business’s website and provided both creative and technical challenges for the team.
As part of the move, a brand new theme was designed as a collaboration between the UK and French teams. This added responsiveness to the website which has previously been desktop only. A complete audit of all the images and graphics on the site was made and the majority of these were upgraded to support the new responsive format and retina devices.
Migrating large websites, particularly when they have site members, presents all kinds of challenges. In this instance, La Pause Jardin was moving from a hand-coded Symphony system to a Drupal website. Ensuring that every piece of content, each user account and their respective settings gets moved correctly requires a lot of planning.
Considerable time was spent creating a migration plan and audit of the existing website content. There were many discussions on what content would be retained, where existing content would move to and what new features would be added to the site. Key to all these decisions were preserving the established SEO for the website (old content was redirected to the new via 301’s) so that the site did not break.
On top of the migration work, new features such as a store and product finder, a gardening calendar and a plant disease diagnostic and solutions were added to help and inform consumers.
La Pause Jardin, as it now stands, has achieved the expectations of improved usability with a definitive visual style. With its mobile optimised theme it’s a pleasant experience to browse, which has improved the overall traffic and seen increases in repeating visitors.
